Early Days Of Business House Travel

There are only a few holiday companies left in this country compared to the vast array when I was a teenager, just starting out in the world of work.  My mother worked for a coach company in our village and I was lucky enough to be given a Saturday and holiday job with them.  I was placed in one of their high street travel agencies in a very posh town just outside London – one of several with the suffix On Thames.  There we handled international and domestic air trave for which we were IATA ticketers – quite an honour which came with years of experience.  We also held the licence to be British Rail ticket office with our own A-Z.  Now this fantastic compendium was a wonder of the printed world.  I loved poring ovre it and my bosses were thrilled when I began working my way around it and showing enormous flare for the task.  our main bread and butter was ‘Business House’ which handled business travel from many local companies.  I loved that.  Feeling important when someoneiportat needed an urgent ticket!
